Everyday Makeup Routine | SUMMER

After writing about my winter makeup routine in December, I thought I would follow it up with a summer edition to see how my routine has varied and changed over the last six months and how I adapt it to the summer heat. In the summer, I tend to not wear much makeup due to the heat, but I do usually put something on my face to make me look slightly more presentable on a day-to-day basis. Again, all the products are linked and mentioned below.

As I said in my previous post, I always start by washing and cleansing my face. Recently, I have been using the Dermalogica Clear Start Foaming Wash. This face wash has made my skin clearer and clearer throughout the last six months and really makes my skin feel refreshed in the mornings. As the range is specifically for teen skin, it is a lot gentler than their other face washes, which is something I also really like. After cleansing my face, I am still finding myself use the Polaar IcyMagic Instant Eye Contour Energiser to make my eyes feel a bit more awake. For moisturiser, I simply use E45 cream. Although this isn’t a specific face moisturiser, I find it keeps my skin soft and not flaky, whilst also not being greasy. After moisturiser, I ALWAYS apply suncream to my face. Suncream is such a must in the summer, and for a few years I’ve loved using the Clarins Sun Wrinkle Control Cream For Face. Although this is a bit more pricey, it isn’t greasy and sinks into my face relatively quickly. It is also easy to apply and doesn’t leave you feeling sticky.

In the summer, I especially like to take care of my skin and not put too much on my face. However, I do put a few makeup products on my face to make myself look more put together, especially if I’m going out for the day. I start by using a relatively lightweight concealer under my eyes and on any blemishes I may have. I still like to use the Revlon Colorstay Liquid Concealer in the shade 01 Fair, as it is useful for highlighting and brightening my skin. I don’t tend to put too much of this on as I don’t want it to look too cakey when it starts to get hot, however I put enough on to make my skin look brighter and more awake. I then move on to powder. I still use, and forever will be using, the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in the shade 001 Translucent. I swipe this over oily places on my face and in places I put my concealer, but I also try to maintain a bit of the dewy shine for a more natural look.

I move on from my face to brows. If I’m going somewhere that I need to look more presentable, I will fill them in properly, however on a daily basis I tend to stick to brow gel. At the moment, I am still using the Benefit Gimme Brow! gel in the shade 1, however I would really like to move to all cruelty-free brands when I run out of it. I like using just a brow gel in the summer as it looks natural yet still makes my brows neater and done.

I tend to shy away from much more makeup in the summer as it usually just slides off of my face in the heat and isn’t comfortable to wear if I’m out and about on holiday. However, sometimes I will stretch to putting a light sweep of eyeshadow and mascara if I’m feeling adventurous or if I’m going out somewhere and I want to look more put together. Recently, I have been loving using the Tarte Tartelette Toasted palette. This palette is small enough to easily travel with and has a variety of peachy and orange toned shades which are perfect for the summer months. It also smells super good so that is also a bonus.

If I feel like I need any more shine on my face, I’ll add a bit of highlighter. I am still using the Benefit Dandelion Twinkle Strobing and Highlighting Powder as it gives a more subtle highlight for an everyday look.

I finish everything off with some lip balm. I like to use lip balm, especially in the summer, over any other lip product because its easier to reapply and the sun definitely makes my lips super chapped. I tend to use one with SPF in it and carry it everywhere with me.

Obviously this routine changes if I’m going out somewhere in the evening or if I’m not doing anything specific and I just stick to not wearing makeup, but this is how I tend to adapt and do my makeup in the summer.
